Losing my status

Today is the last day in which I am still a "student". After today, I am no longer officially a student, even though in fact I have ceased to be one for two months. My library membership (I am told) ends today, and so does my public transport concession.

So, I am no longer a student. I have to shoulder the responsibilities of any other adult on the streets--support oneself, and most likely others as well, with my own efforts. No more concessions, no more special rates. I am supposed to foot the full rate from now on (not very welcoming thought, though I had been prepared for that for years).

So I am no longer a student. No, I didn't spend my last day as a student partying or anything, celebrating my escape from the school system and the restrictions that entails. I spent it working late in the office, typing the minutes after a meeting. Sounds apt, doesn't it? The end of school life really means a full working life. And I was so tired after work that I dozed off the moment I landed a seat on the train home.

So there, just my mopings for the day. Welcome to the working world.
